MAKING A BASIC NECKLACE USING TIGERTAIL

MAKING A BASIC NECKLACE USING TIGERTAIL

There are basic procedures you should take when making a necklace that will  give the best results. Remember you are making YOUR necklace so there is no right or wrong colour mix or design.

  1. Gather your equipment these include your pliers Round Nosed, Flat Nosed and Wire Cutting Pliers. Link to Pliers
  2. Key stringing and finishing materials used would include tigertail, crimps and clasps.
  3. How much tigertail do I use to make a necklace? Rather than be short on tigertail and not be able to finish your project it is always best to over estimate. We follow the basic rule of adding an extra 30% on top of your necklace requirement eg if your necklace length is 45cm add an extra 15cm so you would be cutting a total length of 60cm.
  4. Plan your design. Avoid the temptation of making the necklace straight without planning first! Review the number of beads you will need in the project and lay them on a flat surface use something like a tray with a raised edge to avoid escapees. Remember its your design so play around with the formation /colour arrangement until you are happy. Its generally best to use similar types of beads in the necklace this is important for the weight perspective and getting an even balance.
  5. Commence by adding a clasp and crimp to one end of the tigertail. Check out our video for assistance  Magnetic Clasps Video
  6. When you have added your beads follow the above process to finish off your project.
